Over a Cuppa: Twenty Four (Through the Fog)

Posted on May 23, 2026May 23, 2026 by Melissa

Hi, Hey, Hello!

Thank you for joining me this weekend! It’s been a couple of weeks and I’m so happy to share a spot of time with you today! How the heck are you?!

What can I get started for you? I’m brewing up some black tea with milk and honey (of course) but also have coffee or any herbal tea your heart could desire!

The sun is warm and the breeze is gentle today, shall we take a little walk down to the garden?

Through the Fog

Health Update

Though it’s been a couple of weeks since my last Over a Cuppa share, and plenty has happened, I think I have to start with something I rarely do: A health update.

Without going into too many details, I do want to share what I alluded to in my last #farmphotofriday post. See, I’ve been having some weird gastrointestinal issues since early February, and had a scheduled colonoscopy and endoscopy on the 11th.

The procedure went well and I’m (impatiently) waiting for the biopsy results. I follow up with the surgeon on the 27th and am hoping to get all the info then.

The actual challenge I mentioned, though, is that I seem to have maybe had a rather unfortunate reaction to the anesthesia.

Days one and two post procedure brought about a massive migraine (surely triggered by dehydration), exhaustion, and continued fogginess to the point I didn’t feel comfortable driving until day four…

And that was even a bit of a stretch.

Days four forward brought a continuous improvement in my fogginess (read: memory challenges/ forgetfulness/ fatigue/ dizziness) and a generally weird feeling in my brain and body. I really don’t quite know how to explain the feeling, but it’s not fun.

That being said, 12 days post procedure and I’m still sitting at about 90% of full-functioning capacity.

I’m hoping the surgeon will have some insights (and yes, notes have already been made with my PCP) but I’m not sure what else to do beyond staying hydrated, eating well, and (channeling my inner Barley by) resting lots.

Have you ever experienced anything like this?

It seems most people just bounce right back from anesthesia with little to no difficulty (except me and my sister, apparently) so I’d love to hear your experiences if you’re comfortable sharing.

End of Spring Semester Happenings and Celebrations

Despite the fog and fatigue, life has carried on, as it tends to do, and the last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind.

As anyone with school aged kiddos knows (or remembers), May is wild, and it’s not much different for our home learning.

There were Escape Rooms to find our way out of with our Homeschool Group (success!)…

Final lessons and assessments…

Celebrations for finishing up the Elementary years (yes, our kiddo is officially a rising 7th grader and yes, we will continue learning at home)…

And a deep exhale from both of us as we look toward a very different rhythm for the summer (her at an outdoor adventure day-camp for eight weeks and me tending the land and critters).

Lots of Peopling > True Rest

Beyond our homeschool group meetings on Wednesdays and volunteering on Thursdays (per usual), I also had the privilege of volunteering at the Santa Fe International Literacy Festival for the second year and enjoyed meeting my brother’s mother-in-law and her husband over lunch with the whole family last weekend.

I do intend to write a proper post about the SF Intl Lit Fest, so stay tuned! It was (always is) very cool and I have a Festival-acquired bookstack to share with you.

Rest & Quiet Time > All else

And so, the intention this weekend is to rest, putter about in the kitchen garden as much as my body will allow, and continue reading A Ghost in the Throat (which I’m loving).

What are your plans for the weekend?

That’s All Folx

Thanks for sharing a cuppa with me! I hope we can do it again soon 🙂

As always, thanks to Natalie for continuing to host us for the #weekendcoffeeshare. She’s asking us to link up in the comments now, so please read, scroll, and pop around to see what others have been up to!

Wishing you a lovely slide through the weekend and into next week!

Onward,

Melissa

So, Melissa, should we start our own challenge or link party. I write an Over a Cuppa post every Wednesday. Isn’t that funny? Yours is the first I’ve seen. I’m sorry about your health issues. It sounds like you’re on the mend, and keeping hydrated is a big part of it. Your literary fest sounded like a fun event. It looks very well attended. Have a great week until the next Over a Cuppa episode. 🙂 Marsha

I hope you feel completely like yourself sooner than later. I have never had this reaction to anesthesia. I do however experience the symptoms you describe when I am allergic to something (I have many allergies). Speedy recovery to you!
