Busy Bees & Good Things

Posted on May 15, 2026May 28, 2026 by Melissa

The past week has been nothing if not surprising, in both good and incredibly challenging ways.

Don’t worry, I’ll spare you the challenging details (for now) and instead focus on the good as we head into the weekend.

Cool? Cool!

New Life

Remember the Turkey/Duck Duo from my last #farmphotofriday post? Welp, we have our first hatchling! A perfect little turkey poult is who is wicked smart (already catching flies!) and quite adventurous!

Mama, babe, and the remaining three turkey eggs have been moved to a brooder to keep babe safe from getting trampled under the flocks feet.

Papa is very sassy and proud of his newest babe 🙂

And so it goes…

Due to the aforementioned challenges + time away from the farm for other responsibilities this week, I didn’t get as much time to stroll about freely and get a feel for the changes happening day by day. However, I did my best to make up for that today and was not disappointed!

The pollinators are out in full force and the perennials couldn’t be happier! The elderberry is beginning its flowering process, the herbs are going strong, and I do believe we will have a few sour cherries from the single tree that didn’t lose everything in the recent overnight freezes.

Do I see cherry empanadas in our future?!

I spent a ridiculous amount of time and had a blast watching and photographing the bumblers on the comfrey flowers! There were many bumblers doing their thing, it was quite spectacular to see! That is, until the guy in the last photo spotted me and told it was time to stop distracting them from their work 😉

Faithful Companion

Kira, the very best Barn Cat and my faithful companion, loves to join me any time I’m outside, and especially when I’m in the garden. That is, of course, when she’s not catching mice or chasing lizards. Because I missed the first half of the week out on the farm, though, she’s been especially cuddly and close at hand. I adore her so and am so happy to have her join me 🙂

The View From Here

I’ll leave you with a snap of our happy goats on their field and a view of the gorgeous mesa that guards our home and little corner of the valley…

And with the reminder (for you & me) that life is good… so very good… even when it’s challenging.

More on that soon 😉

Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead! Go gently and do something nice for yourself, OK?

Onward,

Melissa

A beautiful place. I can easily see why you missed it. Kira is lovely. I love that last photo of hers on the bench.

Thank you, Soma. I was happily surprised she took a little nap during our photo shoot 😉

I really enjoyed this visit and the updates from your farm. I hope all is well and the challenges you’re facing aren’t that bad.

I can imagine many challenges, running a farm like that! What a reward the baby turkey (turkling?) is. Simply adorable xx

Sometimes the balance tips a bit in one direction over another, but it’s always worth it in the end. Baby farm animals *always help! Thanks for popping by, Jo!

Right?! It never ceases to amaze me how tiny turkey babes are in comparison to their giant mamas!
