Over a Cuppa: Twenty One

Posted on March 27, 2026March 27, 2026 by Melissa

Hi, Hey, Hello!

Thank you for joining me! I’m so happy to share a spot of time with you! How the heck are you?!

What can I get started for you? I’m brewing up some black tea with milk and honey (obviously) but also have coffee or any herbal tea your heart could desire!

It’s a little chilly outside right now, so let’s have a seat at the table, shall we?

On Time

It’s been a minute since we’ve been able to catch up over a cuppa and March has just raced on by, hasn’t she?

I’ve had so many post ideas over the past month but not the time or motivation to pull out my computer and get them all down. Alas, here I am, filled with words and intentions, trying again 🙂

How’s your writing been flowing these days?

New Mexico to Texas and Home Again

The big news over the last few weeks has been a little trip I took to visit my bestie for her Birthday.

She recently moved from Houston to just outside of Fort Worth so we adventured together to find some good new-to-her spots and had a ton of fun.

From truly good food…

to playing old school games at Cidercade…

to gluten-free brownies, FUCK ICE sugar cookies and some awesome t-shirts…

to new matching but not exactly matching tattoos…

to Meow Wolf, Grapevine…

to indy bookstores and metaphysical shops…

to finishing up my Seasons Feelings Make Along scarf, watching Sinners, and re-learning how to play Cribbage…

we crammed as much as possible into the few days we had together.

My travel days were largely fine (minus a four hour delay getting there) despite the chaos at so many airports these days and people were pretty chill despite their own travel challenges.

Have you traveled recently or have any trips planned in the near future?

Leaning into Spring

While things were showing signs of awakening before I left (like the silly apricot trees), everything was popping when I came back! We never know what Spring will bring in the high desert, and maybe after an abnormally warm winter we’ll have a good fruit year, but only time will tell.

Fire Season is upon us already (I’ve even heard word that soon there will be no fire “season”) and the river is very low due to almost non-existent snow pack over the Winter, but I’m hopeful for some solid rains to come our way…

Slow and steady would be great.

In the meantime, I’m enjoying the fresh smell of blossoms on the breeze and starting a few seeds to transplant after the threat of frost is gone (end of May here).

The warmth and longer days are also encouraging our poultry to lay like crazy! We’ve got a mama duck on a small clutch of eggs, almost all the chicken egg colors you can imagine, and even a random turkey laying an egg every couple of days. They’re really earning their keep this Spring 😉

How’s the weather where you are? Did you experience the massive heat waves we out west did recently?

Weekending

While most of our March weekends have been quite busy with Ditch Day (the community cleaning of our acequia, travel, and random farm and house tasks, this weekend will be largely taken up by an all day training I’m attending in Santa Fe.

The training is eight hours long and called Youth Mental Health First Aid. I anticipate it will be both wildly informational and empowering as well as incredibly emotional and intense.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Have you learned any new skills recently or attended any workshops or trainings?

That’s All Folx

Thank you for spending a spot of time with me here, catching up over a cuppa.

As always, thanks to Natalie for continuing to host us for the #weekendcoffeeshare. She’s asking us to link up in the comments now after some struggles with the linky platform, so please read, scroll, and pop around and see what others have been up to!

Wishing you a lovely slide through the weekend and the last few days of March!

Onward,

Melissa

What an amazing time with your friend. I loved hearing about. The tattoos look great.

I agree that March went quickly. I am looking forward to spring rains and a shift in temperature.

The picture of the eggs is pretty and very spring-like. The variations in size and colour of the eggs is lovely.

Thanks for sharing, Melissa. Happy Saturday.

How wonderful that you got to spend some time with your bestie. Time with friends are so important. My best friend is moving to a different region in a few weeks, and it is going to be hard.
    Your blooms are wonderful!

Glad you had a wonderful visit with your bestie. I love all signs of spring and those eggs in different colours. I also spotted early spring flowers in my neighbourhood (hellebores, snow drops and crocus flowers). Thank you for your weekend coffee share.
