I remember, when I was younger, the adults around me saying that the older you get, the faster time seems to go by. Much to my dismay, they were right. Alas, we find ourselves that the end of another month in no more than the blink of an eye.
As I reflected on what I wanted to share in this space to mark some of the activities of March, I found myself remembering all of the good and some of the challenging happenings, but this is what stands out the most for me in this moment, mostly in pictures.
Leaning into Spring
As I sit here, we are getting our first rain shower in a v e r y l o n g time and it’s filling me with a massive amount of joy and a little hope! As I’m sure you’ve heard me say before, the drought we are in here in New Mexico coupled with a very dry Winter and extra warm temps has me worried. Despite my worries, I’m doing my best to trust in the absolute goodness of the earth and all of Her wisdom, knowing that every drop of water counts and today’s drops are such a blessing.
As so, we clean the acequia and care for our communal water, watch the trees blossom and hope for abundance, plant some extra seeds so we can share later, listen to the birds chat with each other, and watch the sunrise with a hot cuppa tea on a chilly morning while we wait patiently to see what the season ahead has in store for us.

Visiting my Bestie
As I mentioned in my last post, I was able to visit my best friend of 37 years for her Birthday and we had an absolute blast! Food and fun and books and music and matching (ish) shirts and tattoos! My heart is full.

Favorite Female Authors
I don’t typically participate in social media challenges anymore, but when I saw #thewritewomen challenge on Bluesky on March 1st, I thought it might be fun to look back on some of the books I’ve read and pick 31 of my favorites.
The rules were to post a book written by a woman every day. The book must be one you’ve read and enjoyed/learned something from.
All in all, it was a lot of fun seeing what everyone else posted and finding some read books in common with random internet strangers 😉 Also, truly, it was hard deciding which books to post but it helped when I gave myself the extra rule of not duplicating authors even if I’ve loved many of their books.
I did miss a couple of days but got caught up, including the two I posted today.
Here are my 31 books:

Just a few more tidbits
- I finished up a couple of Winter projects and am looking for my next creative endeavor.
- We rescued a dog that we deduced was dumped at the end of our road and are so hopeful she’ll be adopted by the very best human(s) possible. She’s recently had pups, is incredibly sweet and a little scared, and will make someone very happy.
- Instead of attending the No Kings protests last Saturday, I attended a Youth Mental Health First Aid training. It was wildly intense, a little triggering, and felt so deeply important. I was sad to miss the protest but the trade off was worth it and I wore my Chinga la Migra shirt to the training in solidarity.
There you have it, an entire month boiled down into a few bite sized chunks. It’s not everything, but it’s enough 🙂
I hope the past month has been kind to you and the month ahead is filled with all the peace and joy your heart can hold!
I’m off to see what Natalie has been up to and check the comments for posts by other community members. Join me?

I enjoyed your post so much i’ve subscribed. I wish i’d seen that women writers thing, as i have a distinct bias towards them these days. Must check out some of your titles!
Oh! I’m so glad to hear this and have you here in this space! I truly enjoy female authors, too 🙂 Looking forward to exploring your site and getting to know you! Hope you’re having a great week, Jemima!
Thanks for sharing your Women’s Month books here! I saw this trend on bluesky as well, but had missed half the month, so I didn’t participate, but I feel like we should be celebrating women’s books all of the time! Thanks for giving me some more to add to my TBR! Happy April.
I agree with you about *always celebrating female authors! I had such a hard time narrowing it down to just 31! Hope you’re having a great week!
I loved Tom Lake.
Time certainly does whizz by, but even so, each day feels like a gift. Enjoyed looking at the covers of the books you’ve read. Not much overlap with the ones I have read. I will be checking out Long Live the Pumpkin Queen.
I hope you like the Pumpkin Queen! Sally has always been my favorite character and this story solidified her in my heart.
Love your photos of Spring in the first gallery. I’ve read five of the 31 books you mentioned. Thank you for lining up with #MonthlyWrapup. I hope you have a wonderful April.
Thank you, Natalie! 5/31 isn’t bad with so many amazing reading options out there 🙂 Hope your April is starting off wonderfully!
Glad you are getting some much needed rain! I’ve read quite a few of the books you mentioned and I’ve read multiple books by a few of those authors. I hope April treats you very well too!
Yay for crossover! Hope you’re having a lovely week!
It is true that time seem to move faster as you get older. March sounds like a wonderful month in your world.
Those look like great books. I’ve read a few of them, but there are a few I need to put on my To-Be-Read list.
Great post, Melissa.
Thank you, Shari! I’ll be curious to see which ones you read! Hope your week is unwinding wonderfully!
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan leapt out at me. I like Lisa See. Wishing you a great May xx
It’s been ages, but I did enjoy it so! I hope you’ll add it to your list 🙂
