Over a Cuppa: Seventeen (Snow Daze)

Posted on December 6, 2025December 6, 2025 by Melissa

Hi, Hey, Hello!

Thank you for making the trek out here on this very cold and blustery day! I’m so happy to see you! How the heck are you?!

What can I get started for you? I’m brewing up some black tea with milk and honey (obviously) but also have coffee or any herbal tea your heart could desire.

Let’s have a seat at the kitchen table to chat, shall we?

The First Snow!

I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before, but the first snow of the season is one of my very favorite things on the planet! Being slightly disappointed that we didn’t get snow on my Birthday last weekend, I was happy to have it plow through on Wednesday evening.

We’d been forecasted for 1-3 inches but they never can properly forecast for our little valley and we awoke to 7+ inches on Thursday morning. Perfect for keeping a fire in the woodstove burning, drinking all the tea, taking photos, and feeling grateful for our cozy house and no need to leave it 🙂

Have any almost-winter storms hit your neck of the woods recently? Do tell, do you love the snow, or loathe it?

Reading

The last week brought a longing for a solid, sweet, holiday romance story. After tapping around for a bit, I settled on Make the Season Bright by Ashley Herring Blake. It was a safe bet as I’ve enjoyed all her other sapphic romance novels. They’re sweet, easy reads with just enough sass/drama to keep them interesting and Bright didn’t disappoint. It was just the distraction I needed as the week unfolded.

Once done, I was pretty sure I’d want another similar holiday-themed storyline, but landed on The Witches of Scotland series by Steven P Aitchison instead. I don’t love the writing (yet?) but the storyline hits on several of my interest points, so I’m going to keep at them for now. I’m almost two books deep out of the eight in the series.

I’m also, still, working my way through THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT, horror story by horror story. I aim to finish it all by the end of December (EEK!) just to start fresh in the new year.

What have you been reading recently? Are you soaking up the holiday vibe or reading whatever moves you, no matter the theme/genre?

Broke & Bookish Holiday Card Exchange

On a whim, I signed up for Jana’s Broke and Bookish holiday card exchange a couple of months ago and finally sent out my cards at the beginning of the week (right under the deadline)! I don’t know exactly how December creeped up on me so quickly, but it did!

It felt nice to write out cards to strangers, wishing them all the joys of the season and beyond, and am excited to receive my own cards whenever they make their way to me 🙂

I’ll send a few more cards to loved ones soon, but have really moved away from sending cards to everyone. I do miss snail mail, but the push of the season feels like pressure to produce instead of genuine communication, you know? It’s almost like I’m in the middle of re-assessing my relationship with the holidays and how I communicate outside of text and the interwebs 😉

How’s your holiday cheer coming along?

Happy Weekending, Friend!

I’m off to get ready to head into town to get my daughter to a Birthday party and run a few errands (wish me luck in the holiday chaos)! I’ll leave you with the coziest weekend (kitty cat) wishes.

I so appreciate you sharing space and time with me today, let’s do it again soon, OK?

As always, sending a big thank you to Natalie for offering up the virtual space to share space and time together each weekend! Pop on over to see what other bloggers have been up to.

Onward,

Melissa

Thanks a bunch for recommending this holiday read. I haven’t read any sapphic romances yet but as a queer woman would love to. I’m so glad for no snow here, actually, although I must say it looks beautiful.

You’re very welcome, Astrid. I hope you enjoy it! You might also enjoy the Sarah Waters books. Tipping the Velvet is my favorite of hers.

      I hope you’re enjoying a lovely Monday!
