Over a Cuppa: Twenty Two (Stories, Sun, & Soil)

Posted on April 10, 2026April 10, 2026 by Melissa

Hi, Hey, Hello!

Thank you for joining me this weekend! I’m so happy to share a spot of time with you! How the heck are you?!

What can I get started for you? I’m brewing up some black tea with milk and honey (of course) but also have coffee or any herbal tea your heart could desire!

The sun is warm and the breeze is gentle today, shall we have a seat on the front porch while we catch up?

Recent Reads

While I’ve been slowly (and happily) making my way through Never Whistle at Night and The Backyard Bird Chronicles, I plowed through The Unquiet Grave by Dervla McTiernan on audio in record time this week.

I hadn’t been aware that Dervla McTiernan had released a new Cormac Reilly book last year and was so excited to find it on Thursday. I’ve loved all of the books in this series and this one did not disappoint.

She also has a new stand alone book, Three Reasons for Revenge, coming out later this month and I cannot wait!

What are you reading these days?

Garden Prep & Seed Sowing

In addition to tending the soon-to-be-babies in our new greenhouse, I spent a little time this week in the garden cleaning up and amending a few beds and getting a few seeds in the soil. I started with some oats, peas, and bush beans. I have no idea if we’ll get more freezes this spring, but I figure it’s worth putting some seeds in the ground in case the weather stays abnormally warm.

It was nice to putter about and admire all the perennials popping up after the hard work was done but my Winter Body is a little upset with me right now 😉

Hopefully we get the rain we’re forecasted to have this weekend to settle those seeds into the soil! We’ve had several storms circle around us this week and one gorgeous rain, so my fingers are crossed!

How’s your spring garden/prep/weather these days? I know it’s still early, but Climate Chaos has given me a fierce (Spring) Fever this year!

That’s All Folx

Thank you for spending a spot of time with me here, catching up over a cuppa!

I’m off to shop for Event Clothes with my pre-teen…eek! May The Force be with me 😉 Then, she’ll have a sleepover with a family friend and my wife and I will have some rare alone time together on the farm! What shall we do?!?!

As always, thanks to Natalie for continuing to host us for the #weekendcoffeeshare. She’s asking us to link up in the comments now after some struggles with the linky platform, so please read, scroll, and pop around and see what others have been up to!

Wishing you a lovely slide through the weekend and into next week!

Onward,

Melissa

Great photographs, Melissa. I love the one with the white daisies and the greenhouse in the background.

I am currently reading my own book (a final edit) and Plum Pudding Murder by Joanne Fluke. I have another Joanne Fluke on deck with The Goddess is in the Details by Deborah Blake.

Enjoy your alone time. Perhaps a good book and some feet up relaxing will be part of the journey.

Hi Shari! Thank you for your kind words about my photos 🙂 I hope you got all the editing and reading in to fill your heart over the weekend! We got some work done *and some relaxation in! It was perfect!

We still have a bit of snow on the ground, but only in patches here and there. You are way ahead of us with gardening. But tomorrow I plan on doing some clean-up in the backyard. The first of the season, but certainly not the last.

I am reading Amongst Women by the Irish writer John McGahern. Set in rural Ireland, it is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Spare and beautifully written, it’s about a domineering father and his children and how the violent society shaped him. I am only halfway through and it looks as though his second marriage might have a softening effect on him. We shall see!

The photos in this post is so lovely! I especially love the compositions with the green house in the background and the flowers at the front.
