Hi, Hey, Hello!
Goodness, I’m so happy to see you! How the heck are you?!
I’m so glad we have the time to settle in for a proper chat! What can I get started for you? I’m brewing up some black tea with milk and honey (obviously) but also have coffee or any herbal tea your heart could desire… hot or iced!
Reading:
Stealing moments mid-day while cooling down or making my way through a page or two and bedtime does not make for a quick reading experience. Nevertheless, I am thoroughly enjoying Mexican Gothic.
I haven’t listened to a book since June and can’t quite land on what I’d like to listen to next so it’s just the physical book right now.
What are you reading these days? Any good audio books you can recommend?

On the Land:
Last weekend we welcomed a single doeling onto the farm. While her mama had us anticipating her birth all week long, she finally arrived a little after 1:00am on Sunday morning.
We’ve named her Daisy and you can read a bit more about her on the farm blog.
It should go without saying that we are absolutely smitten.
The berries are beginning to come in, the garden is popping, the herbs are abundant, and it is officially squash season here, so mind your doorstep or might find a bag full of squash there for you in the morning!
We also dug several pounds of potatoes that grew up this year from some random potatoes we left in the ground last year 🙂
The afternoon monsoons have been nothing if not wild. With or without the downpour, the lightening and thunder have rattled us daily, sending the dogs into a tizzy and me inside from weeding/harvesting/cuddling the doeling.
Last but not least, we have incubated and are hatching out several Blue Slate Turkey eggs. Our mamas are old enough to mate and lay fertilized eggs, but they’re still too young to quite figure out how to stay put on a nest for 28 days. They’ll learn…eventually. In the meantime, my bathroom is a chorus of cheep-cheep-cheeping.
Our hearts are full.

Folding Time:
The genealogy department has been hopping over the past few weeks as I’ve slowly chipped away at my July to-do list. I’m trying something new and approaching my research and documentation with more realistic goals than I have previously.
Instead of trying to do all.the.things all the time, I’m setting forth three main goals for myself each month.

I have technically fulfilled all three items on my list for July, but I won’t officially check them off until I’ve written blog posts about them all 😉 Luckily, I still have a few days, though you can read about my Civil War Pension File prep here!
Speaking of the next few days…
The third Saturday in July marks the annual Fiestas de Dia de Santiago in our little village. Celebrations marked by a horse parade, Catholic rituals, prayers, and re-enactments, music, games, and yummy food will fill the day as we hang out with our neighbors and friends.
If I think to take photos, I’ll share them here 🙂
Most exciting, though, is that July 28th marks my wife’s and my 19th relationship Anniversary! Though we did legally get married in 2015 after the SCOTUS ruling, this anniversary is always the one we focus more intentionally on since we didn’t really ever think we’d get married…until we knew we really could. The plan is to have a quiet weekend, eat some yummy food, and watch the movie we watched on our first (official) date: Kill Bill.
And with that, I’ll let you get on with your weekend!
Thanks for sharing a cuppa with me! I so appreciate the company
As always, big thanks to Natalie for hosting us and providing a platform for us to find each other.
If you have a few extra minutes, please pop over and see what others are up to, too!
Onward,
Melissa

Wow, Melissa. Great post. That baby goat is cute. They are interesting creatures. Years ago, my husband’s aunt had goats. There was one goat that was particularly attention-seeking. It would bump my leg with its head so that I would scratch it. When I got too far away, it would climb up on crates (maybe it was stacks of hay) and bleat. Too funny.
So good to see you! Yes, goats are so wild and silly and sweet and sassy 🙂 Gotta love them! Hope you’re enjoying a lovely weekend!
What a cute little baby goat! The berries are ripening in my garden as well. This is a good time of the year with all its abundance. Thanks for the coffee!
Daisy really is the cutest! And yes, we must enjoy (and preserve) the abundance while we can! Thanks for popping by!
Sounds like a good week on the farm despite the wild monsoons. Hope you enjoy your weekend and have a wonderful week 🙂 Happy relationship Anniversary!
Thank you, Trent! Life is good here, even when it has its challenges 🙂 Hope you’re enjoying a lovely weekend!
Daisy is so sweet! Hatching out the turkeys – must be interesting! And of course happy anniversary.
She truly is the sweetest! Turkeys are the cutest little babes! So tiny at first!
My mom and I are listening to an audiobook; it’s Henry Winkler’s memoir and we’re really enjoying it. It sounds like your farm is doing really well. I have so much squash I’m running out ways to use it… but I do love it! That is an amazing capture of the lightening. We’ve had some big thunderstorms lately too and they always startle me. Happy anniversary!
Ooohhhh! This sounds like a lot of fun and I like Henry Winkler so that helps! Thank you for the recommendation! I am a big fan of thunderstorms. My family? Not so much ;-/ Hope you’re getting the right balance of moisture out of your storms at least!
Congratulations on your anniversary! And your new baby Daisy. Hope you enjoyed the celebrations.
I just finished From Here to the Great Unknown on audio book – this is Lisa Marie Presley’s bio, co-written by her daughter Riley Keough. I am just fascinated with Elvis history, and the audio book was a well produced listen. Julia Roberts reads everything from Lisa Marie’s p.o.v. and Riley reads her own writing.
It was a really wild peek behind the curtain of wealth and fame, and also made me very grateful to be un-famous.
How interesting! I will definitely check this out! I am intrigued by Julia Roberts reading Lisa Marie’s POV, those familiar voices can add such a wild depth to audio books. Thank you so much for this rec!
Lovely photos! The lightening capture is amazing!! We usually listen to audiobooks during road trips and that was in June. I had just finished reading the Agatha Christie book and it was fun to watch my husband’s reaction as events unfolded while we listened to it together. A Very Happy Anniversary to both of you!
-Soma
Thank you for your kind words, Soma! I love the idea of listening to audio books together and road trips offer up the perfect opportunity! How fun for you to know what was coming and be able to watch for your husbands reactions. Hope you’ve enjoyed a wonderful week!
Hey, Me;issa. I thought I’d pop over and say. Broughts som Portuguese pastel de natas for you and your wife. Congrats on 19th anniversary. Hope you are all okay and just takeing a summer break
Thank you SO MUCH for reaching out! All is well, just wildly busy. Thank you for the pastel! It was exactly what I needed to start my day <3
