Hi, hey, hello!
How the heck are you!
I’ve been (happily) lost in the garden! Mostly!

Time marches on whether or not we’d like it to, and so, here we are.
May has flown by and I haven’t written a word here (or in my other spaces) for over three weeks.
Wild, no?
Instead, I’ve been:
- Finishing up my daughter’s homeschool learning for the year (5th grade complete, woohoo!)
- Putting in all.the.seeds the garden can hold (accompanied by my faithful companion, Kira) + a few larger crops as well
- Reading to my heart’s content (and adding to my TBR like a fiend)
- Managing the medications of two of our (very large LGDs) who are having a bit of a rough go at it right now (different ailments, too!)
- Pressing gobs of cider from last year’s (storage/cider) apples. A successful experiment!
- Enjoying the smells of wild roses and lemon balm (along the front steps to our house)
…alongside a million other tiny moments that have filled each of my days.

And currently? Right now? I am sitting on the couch, listening to music, trying to find my writing groove again and contemplating About page tweaks (here and elsewhere) while my pug chews (rather intensely) on her bone, by my side.
My wife and daughter are on a trip to see family and then attend a Celebration of Life for a dear, fierce friend who recently passed away (after a 10 year battle with cancer) while I hold down the farm.
This means a rather long task list awaits me (seasons wait for no one) but it also means I have spots of time to myself to do whatever I want over the coming week before I light my own candle and have a little ritual of my own.
Time alone (extended time, especially) is a true anomaly in my life so I intend to savor every moment.
How the heck are you? Did May disappear into an abyss for you, too? What’s happening in your neck of the woods?
More soon (I intend)!
Onward,
Melissa

Hi MElissa, I wondered where you’d been and if you were okay. Good to know you have just been busy with life.
May was busy for me to. Went to FRance to celebrate GD 14th birthday. Had a great time, back for 10 days (got horrible cold) just recovered and then we were off to England for 6 days. GArden demanding.
Hi! Yes, all healed up from the respiratory crud and just balancing Spring on the farm 🙂 I’m so glad you had some time away (not the cold part, though). These shoulder season and their sicknesses are for the birds 😉
Gorgeous photos! Looks like you are having so much fun. Glad you are feeling better.
May has been busy here as well, end of school things, a weird virus for my daughter, hosted lots of gatherings at our house and my charity clothing drive is going strong. Garage is crowded with bags and boxes! And my garden is all planted and looking sweet. I am excited about tomatoes, peas, scallions and kohlrabi (new one for me).
Hi Jessica! Sounds like you’ve been having a lovely time as well! So many good things happening in your life! I hope you have an abundant summer in all the ways, but especially in the garden department! There’s nothing quite like eating food you’ve grown yourself 🙂
I don’t remember the last time I was alone alone in the entire house and with summer vacay just around the corner I don’t see that happening anytime soon. Sounds like you have been busy.. but it’s a good busy.
Hi Hena! Yes, being alone at home is *such a gift! I hope you can carve away some time soon, despite (or maybe because of) summer vacation!
I’ve read the top book and the bottom one on your stack — both good. Now, I’m curious about the rest.
Beautiful photos. I hope your alone time gives you what you’re looking for right now.
Thank you so much, Joy! The second book is by an Indigenous woman from Gallup, NM and the other two are banned books. I’m excited to dive into them all!
I’ve read great things over and over about Last Night at the Telegraph Club. I hope you will get to that one soon.
If you do make it to Houston to visit your bestie, give me a holler and maybe we can meet up at one of your bookstore crawl spots!
I’m hoping to read Last Night at the Telegraph Club in June for Pride Month 🙂
I will let you know! It would be fun to meet up!
