Slow Sundays – Carving out some time for Hobbies

Posted on February 9, 2025March 6, 2025 by Melissa

Are there any activities or hobbies you’ve outgrown or lost interest in over time?

I have a confession to make…

I have a lot of hobbies.

Like, a lot a lot of hobbies.

And I don’t believe I’ve ever outgrown or lost interest in any of them.

Except for maybe the habit of social media, which I don’t truly believe was a hobby.

But I digress.

Hobbies, in my world, come in waves. The ebb and flow of interest and capacity are real and can be challenging at times when I want to hobby, but have no ability to hobby in those moments. The interest remains, however.

Luckily, most Sundays allow for a smidge of time to be carved out and spent doing something that settles my brain and makes my heart happy.

So, if a Hobby, by definition is: an activity done regularly in one’s leisure time for pleasure, then I have plenty of options to pull from, including, but not limited to:

  • gardening and herbalism
  • reading and writing
  • creative journaling and scrapbooking
  • crocheting and painting
  • photography and gaming (well, ACHN specifically)
  • family history and blogging
  • brain games and languages (Spanish, specifically)

Today has included a few indoor chores and tasks out on the farm, while allowing time for a few of the above hobbies, including reading and blogging. Up next, a little ACNH before some more reading, I hope. If time and capacity allow, of course.

But first, I’ve got to run outside and put the animals away before the goats start yelling.

Do tell, do you have hobbies that have carried you through the various chapters of your life? I’d love to hear all about them!

xoxo,

Melissa

H-m-m-m, I used to have more hobbies when I was younger, but as I have aged I have focused on the things I love best—reading, photography, writing, movies.
